June 4, 2006 was the highlight of my novice photographic journey. On that day, a Sunday I believe, I received a call from a friend of mine telling me that he saw my name on the big Kodak screen at Times Square. Yes. The Times Square in the Big Apple.
It turns out that an image I took in April of 2006 made it to Kodak’s Times Square jumbotron as part of their Photo of the Day (POTD). Needless to say, it was quite the exhilarating bit of news I got that day. I was at Yosemite National Park that weekend with no internet connection therefore no way for me to see the live cam view. However, my friend was nice enough to take a couple of shots for me to keep as souvenir of this very special day.
The image, which I called In the Land of the Giants, was taken at the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival on a trip a friend and I took specially for this event. “Dr.Achoo or Doc” as I called him (he’s an Allergist/Immunologist) was nice enough to take me to this great event. We spent the entire day photographing flowers which was something I would never have thought I would do. Overall, it was a great trip and I found it truly rewarding that Kodak let me grace their jumbotron for an entire day!
The thrill of seeing your name in lights is quite intoxicating! And as luck would have it, lightning struck twice but that’s for a different day.
