Customization
Slideshow image order?"How do you arrange the order of photos in a slideshow? I would like to see specific orders and not simply ascending or descending". | 1. Go Edit your Post 2. Then Click on Upload/Insert Click on Add Image (first icon from left) 3. A new screen pops up asking you where to upload the image from. Disregard this and click Gallery instead. 4. In the gallery screen, just click and drag the order you want the photos to appear and Save Changes. |
Changing the width of the drop down menu:"Is it possible to set the width of the drop-down part of the menu? I’m finding the text is breaking over too many lines. If the drop-down was wider it would look neater and take up less vertical space"? | You can change this by using some custom CSS under “Appearance” > “P3 Customize” > “Settings” > “Advanced”: #topnav li ul {width: 150px;} … of course you can use whatever pixel width you’d like. |
How to rename “Blogroll”?I still want to find out how to rename “blogroll” on my menu bar to “Links” -might have to hack the source files for that I guess. I do wish you had both written AND video tutorials, though. | The “Blogroll” is simply a category that contains links to sites. All you need to do is rename the category to “Links” as you want and you’re all set. You can find that tutorial here. Additionally, there are a lot of written and video tutorials that can be found here. |
Adding links to menu bar?“I’m, wondering how to add more links to my menu bar. Would love some help.” | Appearance>P3 Customize>Menu>Add/Remove Menu Items>Custom Links |
Changing post count in blog:Anyone know where in ProPhoto3 to change the number of posts that shows per page on my blog? I cannot find it anywhere! | In the admin area, go all the way down on the right under ‘Settings’ and then “Reading” |
Removing the NetRivet and ProPhoto Blogs footer from the templateDoes anybody know where can be purchased the license to remove the NetRivet, Inc. and ProPhoto links from the footer and how much it costs? | It’s an extra fee ($99) and you can find it here. |
Watermarking only in certain images:Is it possible to remove the watermarking effect from certain images? | Watermarking is part of the ProPhoto 3 image protection, which can be turned off on a per image basis. This video explains how to exclude an image from the ProPhoto image protection feature: Screencast |
Linkable footers:How do I add a linkable footer at the bottom of each post? It looks like a banner with a link back to a website, contact, Facebook, etc? Does anyone know how? | If you've updated to ProPhoto 3.1, there's a new feature called "Post Signature" that allows you to put custom HTML after each post, it's under "Appearance" > "P3 Customize" > "Settings" > "Advanced" |
Re-ordering Blogroll Links:Hi, does anyone know how to re-order the blogroll links on the nav menu? | Check out this tutorial and then look for the WP plugin "My Link Order" to change the order. |
Only Showing Part of the Blog EntryI'm wondering how I make my blog show part of the blog entry instead of the entire post w/ all the photos. It's taking ages to load. Thanks! | They're called 'excerpts', and if you have a 'featured image' for the post it will show as a thumbnail. Go to Settings>Reading. |
Making mastheads appear only in certain pages:"Is there a way to make a header show up only in certain pages. I want to create a portfolio that makes use of the slideshow feature on P3 but I still want to maintain a slideshow header (masthead) in my blog page. I don't want the masthead to show up on my portfolio page". | Admin>P3 Customize>Header>Masthead image and slideshow>Masthead display options. Turn on radio buttons for "built-in flash slideshow", "modify masthead on certain pages", and "no masthead on modified pages". Uncheck Home and check everything else. |
Difficulty posting images side by side:I know this is nothing new, but...posting images side by side. I've found it to be a bug in P3. I had absolutely no problem posting images side by side in a plain ol' wordpress template, but the same images (with the same dimensions) continue to stack themselves in P3. Any suggestions? I don't want to hack the html, and I don't want to create a PS document. I know this is do-able. A photog friend of mine who has an older version of ProPhoto is able to do this no problem by simply inserting the image, hitting the space bar a few times, and inserting the next image. No templates and no tables. She tried doing it in my acct (to rule out user error) and she couldn't make it work either. HELP! | The cause of these images not aligning perfectly is due to the "theft protection" feature that prevents the easy side by side layouts. Unfortunately, there isn't a way to "tweak" this feature. |
Missing Tags:"I can no longer see my tags under my post. I did go under Appearance>P3 Customize>Content>Category & Tag Lists. Everything looks normal there but my tags don't show up. Any ideas?" | Appearance>P3 Customize>Content> Post and page Footer. Under Post info below post content, both items should be checked. |
Changing Background Color in Prophoto/NetRivet Credits at Footer:I can't seem to change the background color behind the prophoto wordpress blog credit? I thought it would be in footer - I just want it to blend with the rest of my site. | That is actually your blog's content background color that is pulled in there ("Appearance" > "P3 Customize" > "Content" > "Background") |
Plugins
Setting up a separate Contact Page"Is there a plugin that allows me to create a separate contact form that I can use for a Guestbook". | Contact Form 7 is a perfect one for this application. |
Image Voting"Is there a plugin that allows my visitors to rate or favorite an image? I'm thinking of using it as a popularity feature in my blog. | Flaunt Books has a great plugin that I currently use called Image Voting. It's incredibly customizable and easy to use. While I prefer my plugins FREE, this doesn't hurt the pockets as much. |
If you like this post, please let your friends know. If you want me to add anything to this post, please let me know and we’ll get working on it. Thanks!

Hi Farrahn! Unfortunately, it is since there are images and mastheads that can be customized. You can always download a trial version. Let me know. Email me directly at info@photosbyrikki.com should you have additional inquiries.
Hi Rikki,
I’m shopping around for a ProPhoto template. I currently only have Lightroom. Is Photoshop a requirement to work with your Cassidy template?
No worries Javeed! I am happy to help out as much as I can. And you’re more than welcome to post a link to your site here :)
Awesome post Rikki. Helpful in many ways. I have had my website and blog separate and by using some of the tutorials online including yours, I am about to integrate the site and blog very soon.
many thanks for saving my $10.00……
Thank you for everything.
I hope I wont offend you by answering Ben’s question and if you have better solution I will be waiting for your answer as well.
@ Ben,I am a photographer with not much of a programmer and I wanted to do exactly what you are trying to do now. right now I am using work around, which is may or may not be right way to do it but it will work till genius like Rikki can come up with solution. So my solution using prophotoblogs 4 is
1. Create a post category and call it private
2. When I am creating a post, select to post under private category
3. I am using wordpress3.3.1 when creating post look on right side where there is an option to publish, you can select password protected and create password to view the post instead of public
4. Now you have to create a link for the client to find it easily right, so I created a link in header named “login” and selected to show only category “private”
Optional…..
Since my latest post will also be posted on my home page and I didn’t wanted to show my private posts on home page (saw no point in showing post that public can’t enjoy and for clients privacy)…..so I cheated wordpress by changing the publish year to years before I started blogging life 1980. LOL right but it works for me.
Hope this helps….
If you have any more question or if you would like to see working sample check out my blog http://www.nynjphoto.com/blog and if it’s ok with Rikki posting my site name and email address you can email me at myinfo@nynjphoto.com
Keep up the good work Rikki and thanks for everything.
Rikki, I have purchased PP4 and am using a Seaside Creative theme for my wife’s new photo site. Do you know of any way to manage ‘client pages’ that they can log into so that they are private from public viewing but accessible online? Any thoughts you have would be great appreciated. Awesome cheat sheet by the way!
Such a helpful site. I hope it grows and grows! I just started my prophoto blog this week and love it so far.
How do you add a subscribe button? How do you get folks to subscribe?
Any help appreciated!

Hi Imelda! Yes you can but via a plugin. For my Facebook Page, I use, Facebook Comments Importer. You can check it out and give it a try :)
Rikki, is it possible to integrate my FB Page comments to my Prophoto4 wordpress account? How?
Hi Jessica! There really isn’t an option for this feature that I’ve added on my site. It’s all hard coded in the theme’s design :)
I’m glad that I’ve been able to help out. Feel free to reach out anytime!
Hi Rikki,
I love your subtle bar on top for social media and the search bar. I can find the option to put them in the masthead. I thought I could ask you???
Your site has been such a great help for me. Thank you SO much.

I want to have a widget of some sorts that shows me who is looking at my website – like city, state and time. Anyone know of something like that?
Wow! Thank you so much for all of these tips! I am trying to edge a cool edge like the one in the Vintage Savvy Design in the Pro Photo Design Store. Anybody know how to do this?

Hello! I am visiting your site again to see more of your update post. And found another interesting post to be read. All the Best!
Been following your blog for 3 days now and I should say I am starting to like your posts. And now how do I subscribe to your blog?
Nice to be visiting your blog again, it has been months for me. Thanks, great share.
Great resource, thanks for the tips
A great resource. Many thanks.
Although I would’ve preferred if you went into a little bit more detail, I still got the gist of what you meant. Will definitely come back for more of this. Great work
Thanks a lot! I really enjoyed reading this. It makes me want to create my own blog.
Wow, thank you for this post. It works like a charm. I’m sorry to say that I doubted this at first.
Awesome tips. Thankyou. Trying to SEO!

Hi Rachel-
If ProPhoto’s borders are too small for your needs, I would suggest creating the borders themselves in Photoshop or a similar program. You can create actions so that you won’r have to create the same thing over and over every time.
I hope that helps. If you need help with PS Actions, let me know and we’ll see what we can do. I hope this helps.
Rikki
I’m looking to add a custom border on the left and right side of the blog, separate from the background. I know Prophoto lets me add a border up to 16px I believe, but I want it more custom and wider. Thoughts?
This is seriously a cool idea. There are items in here that I’ve searched for all over. I’m glad that you’ve consolidated the tips. Aside from the main Pro Photo Blog site, this is the other resource I often visit. Please keep updating the tips as they come in. It really helps us a lot.
This site is BALLER! thanks a ton for the info.
Hello, this was sooooo helpful to get my head around the setup of my pro photo blog :) thanks!
THANK YOU!!!!!! I needed some info from your page, such as custom pages w/ and w/o masthead!!
THANK YOU!!!!!!!
Thanks for putting this together. Lots of great tips here.
HI Andreea-
Hi there! If you are referring to the P3 built-in “Facebook Like” button, I don’t think you can see who liked it. You will be able to see maybe one or two of your friends but that’s about it. I’m not sure if you can modify the CSS lines to reflect the names. This has been brought up a few times before and unfortunately, there is no way to see it… yet. Thanks for stopping in!
Rikki
Hi,
I had a question about the facebook like feature. I have it up on my blog and it works fine, but can I see who’s ‘liked’ my post? After more than just a couple people it says ‘Joe Smith and 5 others like this’. Is there a way to see the names of the ’5 others’?
Thanks!!
Andreea
Hi there –
I am SO hoping you can help – I am trying to work out how to increase the height of images in my header/slideshow? I am using ProPhoto3 (www.blog.lovebytes.com.au).
It automatically defaults to only allowing me to use images of 910 x 233 px, but I have seen others with heights of up to 510px when I look at the source code for their pages. Changing the width is easily done, but it is the height that is an issue. I know it must be doable – perhaps my manually editing the css but I have no clue where to do it. Can anybody help with this? Google searches have not proven to be helpful…
I was hoping that this post might answer my question but to no avail.
Thanks so much!
kind regards,
tan. :)
