I’ve always been a fan of the greatest bike race in the world. The Tour de France is the queen of all grand tours. It’s an amazing feat and testament to human determination. It wasn’t oo long ago that we saw Lance Armstrong won 7 Tours de France in a row – a record that may never be broken. This years’ edition proved to be a spectacle that kept everyone in suspense until the second to the last day of the three week bike race.
With a lead of 57 seconds over second place Cadel Evans, Andy Schleck seemed to be the improbably Tour winner for 2011. However, Andy’s weakness was the time trial. in the end, he conceded more than 2:30 minutes to eventual winner Cadel Evans.
With Cadel’s win, his first, it marks Australia’s first Tour de France champion. Will Andy get stronger and win next year’s Tour? Only 11 more months before the 2012 edition of the Tour is upon us.
